Budget Cuts Lead to Restructuring

Missouri Child Care Resource & Referral Network

Press Release St. Louis, Mo., June 28, 2010:

The Missouri Child Care Resource & Referral Network (MOCCRRN) announced today that it will restructure its regional service delivery in the wake of $750,000 in cuts to its state funding. Effective July 1st, MOCCRRN will consolidate all of its regional service delivery into four agencies, from the eight that have comprised its statewide network. In addition, starting January 1st, the referral service-which assists families in locating child care, early education and after-school programs for their children-will be centralized at the state level.

Remembering Don Checkett Pioneering social worker, founder of CDCA

Don Checkett, a social worker whose work as a founder and director of the Child Day Care Association raised the standards across the area for effective and compassionate child care, died of lung cancer at his home in Columbia, Mo., on Sunday. He was 83.

NICHD Study of Early Care and Youth Development
Showing Quality Child Care Makes a Difference!
May 14, 2010


Today, NACCRRA distributed a press release to national and local media outlets regarding the findings of the Early Child Care Study released today by the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD).  According to the study, high-quality child care has a long-lasting impact on a child's development, behavior and cognitive abilities.  Children who received high-quality care in the first few years of life scored higher on measures of academic and cognitive achievement when they were 15 years old, and were less likely to misbehave, than those who were enrolled in lower-quality child care.
